Many of us often have the urge to try something new, whether that be a new experience, or just a change of routine – since a major shift came to allow many of us to work from home that also means a change in the day-to-day to keep things feeling different. Many have turned their attentions to online entertainment options with online streaming being the most popular as viewer numbers increase, others turning to gaming with more options in different genres like these becoming the most popular – some have turned to something to make the day a little bearable, and pets have become a go-to choice. For those looking at some new ideas, what are some more fascinating or unusual pets that could make the day-to-day a little more interesting?

Axolotl – These pink and smiling amphibians are quite hardy and relatively easy to care for, but they’re not all that common to see and for that reason they’re on the critically endangered list – there has been a drive over the recent years to raise awareness for these happy little critters and conservation efforts have increased because of this – and surviving up to 15 years they can make a great pet if looking for something a bit more unique that isn’t seen all that often.

Chinchilla – Another very low maintenance pet, Chinchillas are known to be very clean (although can cause a bit of a mess) and can be very quiet – if handled from a young age they can also form a very strong bond with their owner and be very playful too. Often mistaken for being nocturnal, Chinchillas are instead crepuscular, meaning they’re most active during the twilight hours of dawn and dusk – if working shift working or odd hours, these may be a great pet choice to have some attention during these hours of the day, whilst requiring little maintenance for other hours.

Fennec Fox – If living somewhere with the climate, these big eared exotic creatures have been known to make great pets – they are a little higher maintenance than the other two on this list but can be great for those willing to put in the time. As agile as a cat but as playful as a dog, they’ll certainly be a conversation starter as something more unique, and with a life span of up to 11 years in captivity they can be similar to a smaller dog. It is a big commitment, however, so a lot of care is needed if one is chosen.
